Most of these web hosting service providers advertise that they eco friendly, that they are powered by solar, wind or even nuclear (!) energy. If they are lying for such thing then you could imagive the level of support which will be offered. Almost nobody webmaster will choose his new web host because it is eco friendly. A new web hosting provider is chosen because it is reliable and affordable. If they lie for such a matter, then you could imagine the level of offered support. “Sorry sir, we experience a downtime because the wind isn’t blowing enough, and as you know we are getting our energy through wind”. I gave a hilarious example just to understand what sort of tricks someone is willing to use in order to attract customers.

Finding this kind of scams is quite easy. The only thing you have to do is to track their IP though an online service like IP Tracer and see in which datacenter are hosted. Then search through google more information about the given datacenter. Only a handful of the so called “green web hosting providers” have their own datacenter which could be using renewable forms of energy. But for large, well known datacenters which are used by thousands web hosting companies around the world we know which form of energy are using.

The conclusion is that these kind of business tactics lead to the lack of trust from the part of the prospective customers. If they are saying so many lies just to attract webmasters which consider environment, then it is absolutely sure that they will lose finally. First of all the webmasters which have trusted them they will experience their dark face soon enough. I don’t see that there aren’t any web hosting companies which deserve to be characterized as green, but most of them they lack all these requirements. Be very careful when you choose your web hosting provider. Reliability was and always be the most important factor. If someone wants to save the environment should start first from his daily activities and his way of life, which have a larger impact in environment than in which web hosting provider is hosted his website.
