Joomla Installation Choices

Posted by: admin in CMS

Tagged in: joomla

You have probably already had some experience with Joomla installation, but I’ll provide a short overview so that you may consider the different installation possibilities. When you are making choices about the configuration, you must decide between local or remote deployment, select the platform Joomla will use, determine the method of performing the installation, and pick which Web server to use.

Although most of the options will hinge more on the target deployment conditions than personal preferences, you should evaluate the positives and negatives so that you can understand the ramifications of each selection. You should pay attention to the differences in deployment when performing your evaluation, since it is not unusual to use a different platform for development and testing than will be used for the final deployment. It is common to use Windows or Mac OS for the staging server, while the final site will be launched on a Linux Web server. By noting the variations at the start, you will have an easier time making the deployment transfer.

Local Installation or Remote Deployment
The first installation decision is whether Joomla will be installed locally or remotely. You may have a Web service provider such as GoDaddy.com or SiteGround.com that will be serving your Web site.

There are many times that I catch myself dreaming what would happen if 15 years ago I had the enlightment to register some .com domains. Imagine having in your procession domains like home.com, loans.com, realestate.com, business.com and so on. Today these domains are priced to the millions scale. On the other hand it became extremely difficult to find a meaningful and easy to remember domain that will cost you only 8 dollars to register. As you may understand you can’t have every domain you want unless you sell your house!

Green web hosting wars

Posted by: admin in About web hosting

Almost everyone has heard about how ecological movement tries to change corporate world by giving the impression that the companies not only share the same agony with their client for preserving that environment, but they do whatever they can in order to protect it by human intervention.  In web hosting industry we all have seen that last months hundreds of new web hosting providers have popped up with their main slogan to spin around the term “green web hosting”. Most of these web hosting service providers advertise that they eco friendly, that they are powered by solar, wind or even nuclear (!) energy. I know most of them they host their servers on large datacenters which draw their energy through consumption of petrol or through pure electricity.

Evaluating the offered support of web hosting companies

Posted by: admin in About web hosting

When you are searching for a new web hosting company you must evaluate a ton of different features and factors in order to finally choose the new home for your website. The quality of the support is by far the most important factor that must weights the most in your final decision. It is possible to evaluate the offered support by asking many pre sales questions. If they don’t respond in time, or even worse, if they don’t respond at all, then search for another web hosting service provider. If their answers are short, not enlightening, general and raise more questions then you have another clue why you must not register with the given web hosting firm. Imagine, if their presales department sucks what will happen when you will need real support! Theoretically, presales personnel is the most well trained, friendly and capable in order to make a good first impression and finally to persuade the perspective client to register with them.
