Plone is a content management system which comes for free and is open source. Plone hosting can be used for a variety of websites 
which include blogs, webshops, internal websites, internet sites etc. It can also be used as a groupware collaboration tool and a document publishing system. Plone hosting is quite flexible and adaptable. It provides you with a good security, high usability and flexibility as also extensibility.
Plone can prove to be a good choice if there is a need to add, modify or even delete the content. Even if the content is not table oriented and requires a process, a workflow, and content type, which is complex, Plone proves to be of use. Plone is capable of most of the tasks. It has been released under the GNU General Public License (GPL) and has been designed to be quite extensible.

Plone hosting needs the following system requirements:
- A server machine with internet or intranet connection.
- Console access for installing Plone since FTP is not enough
- It should be able to run background processes on the server
- It should be able to open arbitrary ports.
Operating system requirements
- Windows XP or higher
- OSX 10.4.x or higher
- Linux 2.6.x or greater
- Python 2.4 (Plone 3.x series does not usually work with Python 2.5, 2.6 or 3.0)
For installing Plone on OSX and Linux development tools (GCC) are required.
Hardware requirements
The requirements mentioned below are the minimum requirements that are necessary for Plone hosting. The RAM requirements may 
increase with an increase in the Add-on products and caching solutions.
The Zope application server can run a number of Plone sites with similar software configuration. This helps in lowering the requirements for hosting many sites on a single server.
Minimum hardware requirements
- Every Plone site requires a minimum 256 MB RAM and 512 MB of swap space
- A minimum 512 MB of hard disk space is essential
Recommended hardware
- Every Plone site requires 512 MB RAM or more
- The hard disk space that is required is 2 GB or more
Plone mainly has been developed in Python. There are however certain other languages which have been used within the project. Following are the languages that are used in Plone:
- Python 55%
- XML 11%
- JavaScript which also includes the jQuery JavaScript framework 32%
- Other 2%
The other category includes XSLT, CSS and so on.
